One of the biggest questions asked is, “What is God’s will for my life?” This question is even more popular at this time of year when we have entered a new year full of possibilities. No one wants to miss God’s will for their life. If you love Jesus, there is no where you would rather be. So how do you know which path to follow in 2016? God’s Word is not silent on the subject…
I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.
Psalm 32:8 (NASB)
God promises to give us guidance. But His promise comes with instruction. We can’t be like a horse or mule that must be forced to go a certain direction by a bit and bridle. (32:9) This is not God’s best for us. There is no joy in being forced to walk a certain path. But for those who willingly choose to follow…
…But he who trusts in the LORD; lovingkindess shall surround him.
Psalm 32:10b (NASB)
Herein lies the key to trusting the LORD and not being “mule-like” as He seeks to guide our lives. The love of our heavenly Father fuels our trust to follow Him and the more we trust and follow Him the greater degree of livingkindess we will know experientially from Him.
It’s a beautiful cycle that feeds itself. However, you may be looking at your current circumstances and question whether God really loves you. Therefore, you aren’t willing to trust Him to guide your life. This brings us to the question:
“What or who initiates this love/trust cycle?”
Must you first demonstrate trust for God to show His love toward you? Must you prove that you are serious about spiritual matters in hope that God will love you? The answer is NO!
God is the initiator of this cycle of love and trust. He made the first move of love through sending His Son, Jesus Christ.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8 (NASB)
It is in light of this amazing display of love that we are invited to trust God’s plan for our lives and walk in it. As He seeks to guide our lives and He asks us to trust Him as we walk into places and do things we never dreamed of, we must remember the foundation.
It’s as if God is saying to us, “If I love you enough to give My Son for you, you can trust Me to lead you through this.”
As we remember this, the bit and bridle that forces us to walk a certain way comes off and is exchanged with a glad submission of our lives to the counsel and lovingkindness of our Heavenly Father.
This kickstarts the beautiful cycle where the more we feel loved, the more we trust His leading, and as we see Him leading us, the more we feel loved.
This is the life of FAITH! This is life as God intended. So as you enter 2016, begin with reflecting on the great love that God has shown for you. Maybe your 2015 was hard and you walked through some very difficult things. Even still, the cross of Jesus Christ remains, and it is by the cross that we are assured that God loves us. Remember this, and then trust God as He prepares to lead you into some amazing places in 2016.
Rest in Jesus,
